Auburn University's Early Childhood Education Program

  Cohort B

In this paper, i rated an Early Childhood Facility according to the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS). We observed a facility for at least 2-3 hours and took data along with the checklists. We also interview the lead teacher. I observed a 4 year old classroom at Hardy's creative Childcare in Auburn, AL. I learned exacltly what it entails to have a high quality Early childhood Facility and the different items to look for/ have within a facility to be developmentally appropriate for children ages birth-8years. My experiences made me realize that i have a passion for teaching the younger ages of Kindergarten and 1st grade because of my many observations and just in the short time spent at the center with the kids, i enjoyed every minute.

For this assignment, I observed a 4 year old child at the Auburn Montessori School. for weeks, I watched her and took data on her to later assess. This project taught me how to objectively observe a child and watch for developmental milestones as well as reflect on ways to help foster further learning. Out of thi experience, I saw that observation is the key to knowing your students and their needs and being able to be responsive to those, while finding small significant ways to engage each child individually.
