Working with children has always been a goal and a passion of mine. No matter what circumstance I have been put in, I have always been able to mentor those younger than me.

I came to Auburn University eager to become a nurse because that was what I had been preparing myself for throughout high school. I took plenty of sciences and health science classes because at the time I thought that I was definitely doing something medical. What always stuck with me was my wanting to work with chldren.

My goal was to become a neonatal or pediatric nurse. That quickly changed after I went through my first semester at Auburn and after more researching the profession I realized that 12 hour work days were not for me. I wanted a career that allows me to have more time at home with my future family every day.

I decided to transition into dietetics because I could use the majority of my credits from pre-nursing. I started to like learning about health and helping people live better lives. My goal then became to either work with childhood nutrition or diabetes patients. Once again, I still had a mindset to work with children! Then, life kicked in. My classes here at Auburn and the curriculum became a burden to me. I wasn't happy and excited to learn! I didn't absolutely love what I was doing, so that made it hard for me to retain information. My passion was slowly leaving me. After an awful semester in my nutrition classes, I knew I needed to rethink my college career. I prayed for guidance and vision, then came to the reallization that my purpose in life was to teach.

My mother had suggested education during my application process, but I was so caught up into "knowing" that I wanted to do something in the medical field. I learned that change is good and it's okay to change your path. Especially when choosing a profession. I knew I didn't just want a job, I wanted a career that I am passionate about and that I loved. Early Childhood Education is that for me! Transitioning into education is one of the best decisions I have ever made!
