Engage (Focus)

  • Have students begin on the rug and discuss what we already know about bats. Ask: what are 3 things that we have learned so far about bats? How are they different than birds?

  • Introduce mega and micro bats and talk about how their names give us some insight on how they may look. (Size)

Explore

  • Talk about mega bat facts and then micro bat facts using a Venn diagram. Take things that they already know about bats to but in the middle, or have them learn facts about what makes them similar.

Explain (Reflect)

  • Say: now that we've learned more about mega and micro bats, let's see some examples of them.

  • Show students examples of bars from PowerPoint

Elaborate-Extend (Apply)

  • Have students guess which bats is mega or micro using what we just learned about them.

  • Go through some of the facts that may be on the worksheet activity

Evaluate

  • Have students complete mega/micro bat activity
